In 2008, Solvay Torrelavega celebrated its centenary with a range of events and activities which included a visit from His Majesty King Juan Carlos I
Solvay Torrelavega turned 100 in 2008. To celebrate the occasion, a range of festive events took place involving authorities, civic associations, cultural and sports clubs, and a large part of the civil society of the region.
The opening event on 11 April marked the start of a number of celebrations over the next five months, which included open days, sports competitions, exhibitions, events and tributes in the main institutions of the Community, rounded off by the visit of His Majesty the King.
The visit of King Juan Carlos, as well as being a momentous media event, also provided a historical anecdote, since his grandfather, Alfonso XIII, was present at the inauguration of the factory in 1908.
