The Torrelavega industrial complex is Solvay’s flagship site in Spain, and the Group’s largest and oldest operational location in the country.

Operational since 1908, its 400 employees on the 78-hectare complex are dedicated to the production of soda ash, sodium bicarbonate, salt (sodium chloride), chlorine, caustic soda, sodium hypochlorite (bleach), hydrochloric acid and hydrogen. These are all products which serve as base chemicals for other industries.

Soda ash & derivatives, is one of Solvay’s star business divisions, with the Group being the world’s leading producer of soda ash and sodium bicarbonate. Solvay Torrelavega is one of the 12 centres responsible for this world-leading position, with annual sales in excess of €1,400 million.
These products are supplied to all kinds of companies, from multinationals to SMEs, in industries as varied as those of glass, paper, detergents, pharmaceuticals and food, both human and animal.

Solvay Torrelavega has a large number of best-practice certificates covering quality, health & safety and respect for the environment.

Solvay Torrelavega holds ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 50001 and FSSC 22000 quality certifications, as well as  Kosher , Halal, GMP + B2 and EDQM Suitability certificates.

It also has APRL and OHSAS 18001 health and safety certificates and  ISO 14001 | IQnet ISO 14001 and EMAS, environmental management certificates, as well as an Environmental Statement.
